"The sides exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, with a focus on the issues related to settlement of the Syrian [conflict], developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories, Yemen and Libya," the statement said.
The diplomats confirmed the mutual commitment of Moscow and Cairo to tighten Russia-Egypt cooperation on international affairs, as well as to promote bilateral cooperation in different areas, including political dialogue.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with forces loyal to President Bashar Assad's government fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.
Geneva is currently hosting proximity talks between a government delegation and three Syrian opposition delegations.
