MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Last week, UN Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura defined 12 points on which the parties to the Syrian peace talks in Geneva could agree and submitted the document to them for approval. De Mistura suggested that all parties to the intra-Syrian talks should agree that Syria will be a democratic, non-sectarian state.
"It's logical that a broad ISSG meeting could be head before the next round of Geneva talks in order to make decisions on a unified opposition delegation and on lifting the veto on Kurdish participation in the talks," the source said.
"This will require all the ISSG members to be present, in order to neutralize Turkey's and Saudi Arabia's opposition," the source added, noting that any decisions made during the meeting would later be implemented by ISSG chairs Russia and the United States, as well as UN envoy Staffan de Mistura's office.
The next round of talks between government and several opposition delegations is expected in April.
