ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that he planned to meet with his US counterpart Barack Obama during his visit to the United States.
"I will hold meetings with many leaders. The meeting with Obama is planned, my assistants are working on it. As we met at the G20 summit in Antalya… I'm flying to the United States to participate in a specific event, where bilateral meetings will be held. We will meet with Obama as well, but how long this meeting will be – we will see, depending on the circumstances," Erdogan told journalists at the airport before departure to Washington.
A number of world leaders, including Erdogan, are expected to gather for the Nuclear Security Summit (NSS), due to run in the United States from March 31 to April 1.
On Sunday, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing US officials, that Obama had rejected a proposal to have a one-on-one meeting with Erdogan. The Turkish president administration said that it had no information about a reported cancellation.
