At least seven people were injured in clashes between hundreds of Syrian and Afghani refugees and undocumented migrants in the Greek southeastern port city of Piraeus on Thursday, local media reported.

ATHENS (Sputnik) — According to the Protothema newspaper, two of the injured are in serious condition.

The fight began on Wednesday night when an Afghani undocumented migrant attacked a Syrian woman, the newspaper said. The incident unfolded into full-scale clashes between young Afghani and Syrian men, as police was absent at two of the port gates.

Those fighting were throwing rocks at each other and hitting each other with random objects during the three-hour battle, until police reinforcement arrived.

The Greek authorities are reportedly planning to separate the two ethnic groups to avoid possible incidents in the port, where 5,000 migrants live.
