ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish national Alparslan Celik, who has claimed he killed the pilot parachuting from the Russian Su-24 aircraft downed over Syria, was detained in Turkey on suspicion of fraud, local media reported Friday.
Turkish media reported that Celik had been detained earlier in the week.
According to Dogan News Agency, which cites a law enforcement source, the supposed pilot killer is suspected of having misappropriated funds gathered as aid for Syrian Turkmens, as well as distributing counterfeit money and helping organize a prison breakout.
