GROZNY (Sputnik) — Turkey lost a lot in terms of security as well as hurting its economy by downing a Russian aircraft last year, as the incident led to a deterioration in bilateral relations, the acting head of Russia's Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, told Sputnik in an interview.
"They have lost not simply an ally, but more than an ally, in terms of the economy, security, they lost a lot… Everyone should apologize, including the Turkish authorities and the people, if they did it [downed the Russian plane] accidentally," Kadyrov said.
Russian-Turkish relations deteriorated following the downing of a Russian Su-24 aircraft by a Turkish F-16 fighter in Syria on November 24, 2015. In response to this "stab in the back," as it was described by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Moscow imposed a number of restrictive measures on Turkey.
