Kremlin Spokesman Says Not Intending to Sue Media Over Offshore Reports
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, Newsweek magazine published an article calling for Russia to be banned from the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro because of Russia's foreign policy and certain Russian athletes' involvement in doping scandals.

"Of course, we traditionally do not share the inclination of several politicians and people, who associate themselves with politicians, analysts and so on, to link politics and sport. We have traditionally insisted at all levels that sport, and particularly the ideals of the Olympic movement should be depoliticized," Peskov told reporters.

In November 2015, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Independent Commission issued a report accusing Russia of numerous breaches of global anti-doping regulations and recommended the country be banned from international athletics competitions. The Russian authorities have promised to carry out a clean-up program to fulfill the WADA demands in order for country's athletes to be allowed to participate in the 2016 Olympics.
