BISHKEK (Sputnik) — A meeting of the prime ministers of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member states may take place in the Russian capital on April 12, a Kyrgyz government spokeswoman said Wednesday.
Originally, the meeting was scheduled to be held in the Armenian capital of Yerevan on April 7-8.
"We expect the meeting of the heads of the [EEU] governments to take place in Moscow on April 12," Nazira Ahmedova told RIA Novosti.
She added that Kyrgyz Prime Minister Temir Sariev was expected to attend the meeting.
The news comes amid the escalation of tensions between Armenians and Azerbaijanis over the disputed Caucasian Nagorno-Karabakh region. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his Armenian counterpart Hovik Abrahamyan have already discussed Moscow's readiness to host the meeting amid the outbreak of violence.
The EEU, comprising Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, is an international organization that encourages regional economic integration through the free movement of goods, services, and people within the union.
