MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The complicated international political situation has no negative effect on the Russian joint Arctic projects with the United States and other countries, the Russian Emergencies Ministry's envoy in the European Union, Igor Veselov, said Thursday.
"Despite the difficult international situation, we have good relations with the United States and with other neighbors regarding Arctic cooperation," Veselov said at a conference devoted to security in the Arctic.
In late January, the US State Department’s Special Representative for the Arctic Adm. Robert J. Papp said cooperation between the United States and Russia in the Arctic region remained successful despite political differences.
Russia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and the United States cooperate in the Arctic using various international platforms, including the Arctic Council. The countries coordinate their scientific, business and environmental projects.
