Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to list at least 100 problems faced by people in various parts of India and take up the challenge of solving them technologically within a specified time period.
Mentioning key areas where CSIR scientists could take the lead in providing breakthroughs, the Premier spoke of diseases like sickle cell anaemia, which is prevalent among the tribal people, defense equipment manufacturing, life-saving equipment for soldiers, waste management and innovations related to solar energy and the agriculture sector, a statement said.
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is the nation-wide research network of laboratories which spans India. Its programs address specific needs and demands which Indian society faces. It is mainly funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, yet operates as an autonomous organization.
