The town of Arcachon in southwestern France has had a serious problem for a while — vandals keep removing the male organ of a local three-meter statue of Hercules. It has happened "systematically" since the statue was erected in 1948.
"I wouldn't want anyone — not even my worst enemies — to go through what happens to this statue," Mayor Yves Foulon said, according to Sud Ouest.
As something had to be done to solve the problem, city authorities came up with a brilliant idea — they made a removable penis, which can be easily strapped on to the body of Hercules during special ceremonies in the park and taken off afterwards.
"So yes, for now Hercules has weak manhood… We've chosen to give him a removable prosthetic that we can add to the statue before each ceremony," Foulon said.
When the statue was first built after World War II, a local sculptor, Claude Bouscau, had to shorten Hercules' male organ twice, after local women thought it was too big.
Hercules is the Roman name of Heracles, a Greek divine hero known for his incredible strength and numerous fearless adventures.
