MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A Hague court’s decision to overturn an earlier ruling on the defunct oil company Yukos will hopefully unlock Russian state assets that were frozen to push Moscow to pay to the firm’s stakeholders, the Russian upper house speaker said Wednesday.
"This decision should make it possible to unblock Russian state assets that have been frozen in several countries over this case," Valentina Matviyenko, of the Federation Council, told journalists.
Earlier in the day, the Hague District Court struck down the Permanent Court of Arbitration’s 2014 ruling that ordered Russia to pay $50 billion to Yukos shareholders, saying PCA had no jurisdiction in the Yukos case.
In June 2015, France and Belgium froze Russian assets, including bank accounts, in line with the PCA ruling.
