MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia's United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation (UIMC) has developed a radar optical station for protection of the state borders and critical facilities, which is capable to detect the movement of people and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the UIMC's press service said Friday.
"The station, developed by our Vega [Radio Engineering] Corporation, allows to get full and reliable information about the situation at the protected territories and objects. Unlike the majority of other radar stations it is capable to detect not only land targets, but also low-flying UAVs, that considerably increases the efficiency of such a monitoring system… Separate elements of the radar optical station are currently undergoing trial operation and showing good results," UIMC's Deputy General Director Sergei Skokov said as quoted in the press service's statement.
The UIMC was established in March 2014 within State Corporation Rostec as a specialist company uniting research and production facilities of radio and electronic sector of Russia.
