MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The death toll from a blast at Mexico’s state oil plant Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) reached 32 after four more bodies were discovered by searchers, the company said in a statement.
A huge explosion hit the Pemex facility in the state of Veracruz on the Gulf coast on Wednesday. The blast was attributed to a leak although its source has not been determined.
"The number of casualties caused by this accident stands at 32. At the moment, 26 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families. Six bodies of workers have not been unidentified while families of six workers have reported them missing," the statement read Sunday.
The tragedy happened two months after a fire broke out on a Pemex offshore oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico, injuring several workers and killing two. In April 2015, four people died and over a dozen were injured after a blaze on the same oil rig.
