Russian gas giant Gazprom increased gas supplies to the EU-member states in the first quarter of 2016, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian energy giant Gazprom increased gas supplies to Germany by 19 percent in January-April compared to the same period of 2015, as well as by 43, 23 and 8.7 percent to France, Austria and Italy, respectively, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said Monday.

"Our traditional customers showed stable growth of demand for Russian gas in January-April of 2016 — Germany's demand increased by 19 percent compared to the same period in 2015, Italy's by 8.7 percent, France's by 43 percent and Austria's by 23 percent growth," Miller told journalists.

In the first quarter of 2016, Gazprom increased the exports of its gas in the CIS countries by 28.6 percent in annual terms.

In 2015, the total exports of Russian gas amounted to almost 201 billion cubic meters, including 158.56 billion cubic meters to far abroad countries and some 4.75 billion cubic meters of liquefied natural gas.
