MOSCOW (Sputnik) — This was a benchmark set by the European Commission for abolishing visa requirements for Turks. It said no Turkish citizen will be allowed to travel to EU's borderless Schengen area without an upgraded passport.
"Electronic chips containing fingerprints will be added to passports from June. Then we will start giving out new passports," Cavusoglu said, as quoted by the national television channel NTV.
European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans said on Wednesday that the EU’s executive body had decided to recommend that the union’s Parliament allow Turks to travel to Schengen member states without visas, and its decision is due in June.
