Call of Duty: MMA Fighter Monson to Defend Russia if Necessary
MMA legend Jeff Monson, who received Russian citizenship last year, promised to join the Russian Army if there is a need to defend the country, Gazeta.ru reported.
"Right now Russia is my home. I'm ready to defend it and if suddenly there is a military conflict that involves Russia, I'm ready to join the ranks of the army. But I might not be accepted [into the army], I'm too old for the army," Monson said during a press conference in Ekaterinburg.
Monson became a Russian citizen at the end of 2015 and even competed in MMA under a Russian flag twice.
Last month, Monson also said he was interested in becoming a member of the Russian Communist Party, adding that socialism is the only way human beings would be able to survive in the future.
Monson repeatedly said he loves Russia and is proud to be a Russian citizen. The MMA fighter also said he sees himself in the future coaching underprivileged kids across the country.
The professional MMA fighter compiled a record of 60 wins and 25 losses in the heavyweight division in various MMA leagues, including the UFC. Some of his notable performances include wins over Alexander Emelianenko, UFC heavyweight Roy "the Big Country" Nelson and #3-ranked kickboxer Sergei Kharitonov.
