MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the IOM statistics, 184,744 migrants arrived to the European Union by sea, primarily to Spain, Italy, Greece and Cyprus, while 4,634 asylum seekers made the journey by land.
IOM noted that 1,357 migrants have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean Sea since January.
The European Union is struggling with an enormous flow of migrants, entering the bloc by crossing the Mediterranean Sea or through southeast Europe. The refugees are mainly fleeing from war-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
More than 3,770 deaths of migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea were recorded in 2015, according to IOM.
