WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — At the same time, the poll indicated that a portion of the US military is ambivalent about their preferences, with more than 20 percent indicating they prefer not to vote at all.
"Donald Trump emerged as active-duty service members' preference to become the next US president, topping Hillary Clinton by more than a 2-to-1 margin," the publication stated. "However… more than one in five troops said they’d rather not vote in November if they have to choose between just those two candidates."
Trump won with 54 percent support followed by Clinton with 25 percent, while 21 percent indicated they would sit out the election.
The report cautioned that its poll should not be considered scientific, as it was based on surveys of those who subscribe to the publication.
Trump and Clinton, the presumptive nominees for the Republican and Democratic parties respectively, suffer from high negative opinions among the US electorate, according to multiple public opinion polls.
