MOSCOW, May 13 (Sputnik) — The DIA, which acts as the liquidator of Pugachev’s former bank Mezhprombank, originally commenced proceedings against the ex-senator in Russia in December 2013 after he was accused of helping himself to over $2 billion from the bank. Civil proceedings were initiated against Pugachev in England in July 2014.
"In particular, provisional measures were imposed on Pugachev's 47-meter DB9 yacht, produced by the Palmer Johnson company, registered in the Cayman Islands, and on Pugachev's French villas, including Chateau de Haro, Annushka, chalets Valberg, as well as villa №40, located in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat," the Thursday statement said.
Pugachev, 52, was ousted from the Russian parliament’s upper house in 2011 and was placed on Interpol's wanted list.
In February 2016, the High Court of Justice of England and Wales sentenced Pugachev to two years in prison.
Mezhprombank was declared bankrupt in November 2010 after failing to meet Central Bank requirements and repay creditors.
