Damascus Calls on UN to Condemn Massacre in Western Syria
16:05 GMT 14.05.2016 (Updated: 16:06 GMT 14.05.2016) The Syrian Foreign Ministry has sent two letters to the United Nations, calling on the organization to condemn the recent massacre in the al-Zara town in Syria's western Hama province, the ministry said in a statement Saturday.
BEIRUT (Sputnik) — At least 20 people were killed in the militant attack on al-Zara on May 12.
"The Syrian Foreign Ministry has sent two letters to the UN secretary-general and the UN Security Council about the massacre in the village of Zara, Syrian Hama province, which was organized by militants of terrorist groups al-Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham and allied gangs," the statement obtained by RIA Novosti reads.
On May 12, terrorists carried out an attack on the town of al-Zara in Syria's Hama province, killing local residents and abducting women and children.
The militants infiltrated the town in the morning but some residents managed to escape and hide in nearby villages, witnesses told Sputnik.
The town of al-Zara is located near Homs province, which is controlled by Daesh.
