MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UN-backed intra-Syrian talks are likely to resume in the beginning of July following the holy month of Ramadan, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Tuesday.
"Most likely after Ramadan. Some contacts can be made before and even during Ramadan, but as far as I understand the official resumption or the start of a new round of intra-Syrian talks under de Mistura's mediation will take place after Ramadan," Bogdanov told RIA Novosti.
"It seems as if the Syrians are still not ready to initiate direct contacts, although it would be an optimal development, as well as the participation of Kurds, the Democratic Union Party," the diplomat added.
