26-year old Salah Abdeslam, the main suspect in the terrorist attacks that rocked Paris in November 2015, is being held under exceptional circumstances at the Fleury-Merogis Prison, monitored 24 hours a day as he awaits trial.
The prison has provided him with two cells all to himself, with the prisoner periodically moved from one to another, "for safety reasons," RTL explained. Each cell is equipped with two cameras.
At the same time, the gym and exercise yard are also monitored remotely. A seventh camera has been placed in the multipurpose room. Guards have been assigned to monitor the activity on the camera at all times, two at night and one each in the morning and afternoon.
Therefore, RTL noted, it wouldn't be at all out of place to suggest that Salah Abdeslam "is not only the most watched prisoner in France, but also the most expensive."
