MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, HNC’s chief representative Mohammed Alloush announced his resignation over the failure of the peace talks to bring a political settlement in Syria.
“I don’t know whether there is a need at all for a chief negotiator. It [negotiations] is a matter of two delegations – the head of the regime delegation on one side, and the head of the HNC delegation on the other side. There is no need for a chief negotiator,” Aridi said.
“This resignation actually was submitted on May 20, but there was no reaction on the part of the HNC. But when they (HNC) met on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, they accepted his resignation,” Aridi said.
Head of the HNC delegation Asaad Zoubi still keeps his post, though “he is also frustrated because of the impasse that the talks,” Aridi added.
