US Urges Russia to Enable More Humanitarian Aid Delivery to Syria - Embassy
21:31 GMT 01.06.2016 (Updated: 10:59 GMT 06.08.2022) The Russian authorities should influence the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad to ensure humanitarian access to besieged areas in the county, the US Embassy in Syria said in a Twitter message.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Earlier on Wednesday, the first aid convoy since 2012 reached Damascus suburbs Daraya and Moadamiyeh.
"We urge Russia to use influence w[ith] regime to fulfill commitment for continued ground access plus airdrops if needed," the US Embassy tweeted on Wednesday.
Delivery of aid to areas near the Syrian capital Damascus was an important step, the US Embassy noted.
However, "it is far from sufficient to provide relief to all of the communities identified by ISSG [International Syria Support Group]," the message added.
The Red Cross has said that the delivered aid on Wednesday includes vaccines and baby milk.
