MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A Russian satellite for the needs of the country's Defense Ministry has been successfully put into orbit, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Saturday.
"The launch [of the satellite] into orbit has been carried out in a normal mode," the ministry's press service told RIA Novosti.
Earlier in the day, Russia launched the Rokot carrier rocket with the satellite from the Plesetsk space center in northwest of the country.
The Rockot carrier, first launched from the Plesetsk spaceport in 2000, has so far put 65 satellites for various purposes into the orbit.
