MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The New Era of Journalism: Farewell to Mainstream forum, hosted by the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency and focused on discussing the changes taking place in modern journalism, is due to take place on June 6-7 in Moscow.
"The forum…will feature discussions on the condition of today’s journalism and its transition to post-mainstream, the evolvement of alternative media, the mainstream media and their clients’ loss of their monopoly to form the everyday agenda for the world information space, and the existence of new media as guarantors of the freedom of information," Rossiya Segodnya said in a statement announcing the event.
Officials, including Russian Communications and Mass Media Minister Nikolai Nikiforov and UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information Frank La Rue, as well as prominent journalists, commentators and authors are also set to attend.
Divided into three sections, the events' topics will cover the role of journalists in the post-mainstream age, the freedom of information for new media and the open information age after the end of media monopoly.
The changing nature of journalism that needs to be understood is reflected in the rise of new media outlets, the audiences' desire for alternative information sources and the decline of loyalty to old news brands and increased media competition, according to the organizers.
