MOSCOW (Sputnik) — International organizations that protect freedom of speech condemn practice of shutting TV channels down, the Russian Union of Journalists (RUJ) Executive Secretary Nadezhda Azhgihina said Saturday.
Earlier in June, Argentina has decided to suspend the broadcast of RT Spanish that could be viewed via free transmission, but the channel would still be available as part of paid TV packages. Before the move, Argentinian authorities made the same decision for Telesur TV channel.
"All international professional organizations, all the organizations that protect freedom of speech, condemn the practice of shutting TV channels down," Azhgihina told RIA Novosti.
She added that the recent congress of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) had also confirmed the main demands of the professional community and importance of struggle against aggression in media.
RT Television’s Spanish-language channel was launched in Argentina as part of the Latin American country’s national broadcast in 2014.
