MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Baltic States and Poland are in talks with military equipment manufacturers on potential joint regional air defense system, media reported.
"We are in discussions now with the Estonians, the Latvians and the Poles over how we can create some kind of regional air defence system," Lithuanian defense minister Juozas Olekas said as quoted by the Financial Times.
He added that the creation of Baltic air defense system is being actively discussed with NATO.
Earlier in May, Polish authorities claimed that the decision to deploy four NATO battalions in Poland and Baltic states has been already made and only technical details are left to discuss at the Alliance summit in Warsaw which is scheduled for July 8-9.
Moscow has repeatedly denied the claims and warned NATO that the military buildup on Russia’s borders is provocative and could harm regional and global stability.
