MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Shop staff grew suspicious as Mateen asked for bulk ammunition and heavy-duty body armor usually used by police officers. He is also said to have had phone conversations in a Middle Eastern language, The Wall Street Journal cited Robbie Abell, the co-owner of the shop, as saying.
"[Mateen] just seemed very odd. The questions he was asking [about body armor] were not the normal questions a normal person would be asking," Abell said, adding that Mateen was turned away from the shop. "If something is suspicious, it’s our discretion. We are the gatekeeper."
The FBI confirmed on Wednesday that the attack was investigated as an act of terror. Alleged links between Mateen and Daesh terrorist group is probed. Orlando attack became the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States.
