MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom's exit from the European Union will not have direct impact on Israeli economy, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday.
"There is no direct effect [of Brexit] on Israel apart from the fact that we are part of the global economy. Over the weekend I held a discussion with the Finance Minister, the Governor of the Bank of Israel… I can say one thing: The Israeli economy is strong. It has very considerable foreign currency reserves; therefore, to the extent that there is some effect, it is not expected to be strong, other than unrest in the global economy," Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting.
On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the EU. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
