MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Standard & Poor's ratings agency cut Britain’s sovereign credit rating on Monday from AAA to AA following its decision to quit the European Union.
"Ratings on the United Kingdom lowered to 'AA' on Brexit vote; outlook remains negative on continued uncertainty," the agency wrote in a press release.
The United Kingdom voted last Thursday by 52 percent to 48 percent to leave the European Union, triggering a 31-year low plunge in the national currency's exchange rate against the dollar.
The downgrade may affect the nation's ability to borrow money from international creditors.
