TBILISI (Sputnik) — Georgia's Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli urged the United Nations on Monday to publicly disclaim involvement of Georgian peacekeepers in sexual abuse in the Central African Republic (CAR).
"Investigators came back to Georgia. Information on alleged involvement of Georgian military in the incident was false. I urge to make a disclaiming statement in the same form as the accusation against Georgian military was made several months before," Khidasheli said.
In January, High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Hussein raised concern over allegations of rape or sexual exploitation filed against peacekeeping staff members between 2013 and 2015. Troops from France, Burundi, Gabon, Georgia, and some other countries came under fire for alleged involvement in sexual abuses.
