MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Iraqi Interior Minister Mohammed Salem Ghabban has announced his resignation, Al Mayadeen television channel reported Tuesday.
The broadcaster provided no details over the reasons of Ghabban's resignation.
Iraq has been mired in an armed conflict with the Daesh terrorist group, outlawed in Russia, which controls some parts of the country and stages numerous attacks against civilians.
In late June, the Iraqi military announced that the city of Fallujah had been fully liberated from the Islamic State group. Fallujah, located some 42 miles west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, is one of the largest cities in the Anbar province. Daesh has been in control of the city since 2014.
