Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former member of the US Army National Guard, was arrested for attempting to provide material support to the Daesh, according to the Department of Justice.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A former member of the US Army National Guard was arrested for trying to provide support to the Daesh terrorist group, the Department of Justice said in a press release on Tuesday.

"Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a former member of the Army National Guard, was arrested on July 3 for attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State," the release stated.

The Justice Department noted that the 26-year-old former service member is accused of trying to get weapons he believed would be used in an Islamic State attack on US soil.

Moreover, Jalloh is accused of trying to provide money to individuals who sought to join the Islamic State, according to the release.

If convicted, Jalloh faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
