MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia’s atomic energy corporation Rosatom is planning to develop a technology of new nuclear fuel production before the end of the year, the company said Wednesday in its annual report.
"The experimental-industrial technology of the dense nitride uranium-plutonium fuel will be developed in 2016," the report said.
According to the report, the dense nitride uranium-plutonium fuel is expected to be used within the framework of the Proryv (Breakthrough) project, which is currently implemented at the Siberian Chemical Combine site in Seversk, in Russia's Tomsk Region.
The project involves the construction of a pilot energy complex, supplemented with the Brest-300 experimental lead-cooled nuclear reactor and a near-station manufacturing facility for dense nitride uranium-plutonium fuel.
