"They're not serious, so I cannot say I welcome the unseriousness and being in Syria illegally," Assad told NBC News.
"The reality is telling that since the beginning of the American airstrikes, the terrorism has been expanding and prevailing, not vice versa, it only shrunk when the Russians intervened," he added. "It is counterproductive. When the terrorism is growing, it is counterproductive."
United States politics have hit an "all time low," Syrian President said.
"Their mainstream politics are at an all time low," Assad told NBC News. "Regarding the politics in general, not regarding Syria."
According to the Syrian leader, Damascus hopes the next US president will be "wiser" and "less militaristic.
"We keep hoping, but we don't bet on that hope," he said.
