MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, UK Member of Parliament Davis has been appointed the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union in Prime Minister Theresa May's new cabinet.
"To keep tariff-free access <…> I think yes, that is what we're aiming for <…> I think in a year or two, we will see that the EU is changing away from the initial project fear stance, towards the stance <…> "we must talk to the Brits to make sure free trade works in both directions." They know what we have always said, that they depend as much on us — more on us, actually — than we do on them," Davis told Sky News' Murnaghan Programme on Sunday.
On Thursday, UK finance minister Philip Hammond said that the United Kingdom was set to leave the EU single market as a result of the June Brexit referendum, but would then negotiate access to this free trade zone.
