Russia is awaiting the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to share its investigative materials in order to carry out its own investigation into doping, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.
Vladimir Putin, in a statement following Monday’s WADA report accusing Russia of overseeing a state-wide doping program at international competitions, asked the agency’s commission to submit evidence on which the allegations are based.
"This information is necessary and, if it is provided, will be used in the course of the investigation, which – I would like to reiterate – is not the first time that our investigative authorities, the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor General’s Office, are carrying out," Peskov told reporters.
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is scheduled to convene a telephone conference on Tuesday to discuss possible measures and sanctions in regard to participation of Russia's athletes in the Rio Olympics.
