MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The International Olympic Committee will use an independent expert to decide which Russian athletes were not doping-tested rigorously enough prior to the Rio Games potentially reducing the size of the national team to mere 40 athletes, media reported.

"The IOC will use an independent expert to weed out those considered to have undergone insufficiently rigorous drug-testing in the build-up to Rio," the Telegraph newspaper reported Monday adding that this potentially "would reduce the Russia team from what would have been almost 400 at full strength to a delegation as small as 40."

On Sunday, the IOC Executive Board announced its decision not to expel the entire Russian team but ban all athletes who have a record of doping violations from participating in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games giving rise to criticism.
