Sweden Hosts Second World Mosquito-Catching Championship

The second unofficial world competition for mosquito catching was held over the weekend in Overtornea, Sweden.

Last year’s winner failed to retain his title and became vice-champion. Christopher Akers became the new champion of this weirdly funny battle after catching 135 insects.

“The feeling is awesome. By nature I am a sportsmen and hate to lose,” says Christopher Akers.

Meanwhile, Akers refused to reveal the secret of his success, limiting it to recommendations. According to him, mosquito catchers need  to wear dark clothes, sweat and stand still.

Together with the first place winner, Akers received a bonus in the amount of 10 thousand Swedish kronur.

The idea of holding the World Mosquito-Catching Championship emerged in the Overtornea commune following the city administration’s request for permission to the proceeding means for the surrounding forests mosquito control was denied.

Due to the success of the last competition it was decided to hold it again.
