Despite a number of hiccups during last week’s convention, including plagiarism allegations against Melania Trump and the refusal of once-rival Ted Cruz to make a public endorsement, Trump has received the customary post-convention bump in poll numbers.
A poll conducted by CNN/ORC shows that the billionaire leads the former Secretary of State by 48% to 45%. This is a six-point gain from previous CNN surveys.
The same polls show Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson at 9% and Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 3%.
The margin of error is roughly 3.5 percentage points.
A separate poll conducted by CBS News shows Trump gaining only two points, putting both candidates at 42%.
With the Democratic convention underway this week, Trump’s lead is likely to decrease as Clinton should receive a similar boost after officially accepting her party’s nomination on Thursday.
Still, the race is already closer than many expected, given Trump’s divisive rhetoric and relative inexperience in government.
With four months to go before Election Day in November, polls are likely to fluctuate.
