MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian national women's handball team has been cleared to participate in the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil, Sergei Shishkarev, the head of the Russian Handball Federation, said Wednesday.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a decision on Sunday not to ban the entire Russian Olympic team from the participation in the Rio Olympics, choosing to leave it to the individual sports federations to decide on athletes' participation.
"The President of the International Handball Federation [Hassan] Mustafa said that the Russian team has been allowed to participate in Olympic Games…We are good for now, all [doping] tests have been conducted," Shishkarev told R-Sport news agency in a phone call.
He added that the team will fly to Brazil on July 28.
The Russian men's national handball team has failed to qualify for Rio Olympics.
