"The FIVB has submitted the names of the Russian volleyball and beach volleyball athletes to the IOC [International Olympic Committee] and CAS [Court of Arbitration for Sport] for approval," the FIVB said in a statement relayed to R-Sport.
Following the IOC’s Sunday announcement delegating decisions to ban or allow Russian athletes into the August 5-21 games to individual international federations, 109 Russian athletes have been disqualified and the status of 117 more remains in limbo as of early Wednesday.
"The FIVB is 100 percent committed to protecting clean athletes and will take immediate action to suspend any athletes who have infringed anti-doping rules," the governing body said, emphasizing its "zero-tolerance" policy toward doping.
Russia has been accused of running a state-sponsored doping program, which led to some athletes found guilty of abusing performance-enhancing substances being suspended from competitions.
