"It seems strange to me that when it came to Clinton’s illegal server, FBI Director James Comey said there was no way to tell if the Russians or Chinese had hacked it," University of Northern Ohio Assistant History Professor Robert Waters told Sputnik on Thursday.
Yet when it came to the hacked DNC server, officials within the Obama administration seemed to suggest in minutes that two separate Russian teams were responsible, Waters noted, referring to media reports.
Waters also noted that the US media and Democratic Party leaders’ attacks on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for allegedly asking the Russians to access Clinton’s emails were absurd and contradictory.
"This is an absurd and hysterical charge — not just because Trump was obviously making a joke — but because, according to the FBI, Hillary's emails have been destroyed. How on earth could the Russians hack them?" Waters asked.
Trump's joke was that if the Russians really did hack Clinton while she had control of her illegal email server, they should look through the emails they hacked to find the 30,000 missing emails, Waters explained.
“It was clear that Trump was making a joke and, of course Clinton’s mock outrage is a deflection from her own email problems… and from the DNC fixing the nomination fight against [Senator Bernie] Sanders," Waters stated.
"I don't think the FBI coming out and saying the Russians hacked the DNC will ultimately impact the elections much," Ditz noted. “Most US media outlets are already presenting it as an unquestioned fact simply on hearsay, and the FBI's… statements rarely appear to have any more basis than that.”
On Thursday, US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said intelligence authorities were not ready to say who was responsible for the hacking into the DNC server.
On Monday, WikiLeaks released a cache of DNC emails after the party was targeted by an unknown hacker. Top advisors to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton immediately blamed the hack on Russia.
