WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) conducted 25 airstrikes against the terror group’s positions in Syria and Iraq on Wednesday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted 14 strikes using attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [IS] targets," the release said on Thursday. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 11 strikes with and in support of the Government of Iraq."
In Syria, the 14 strikes destroyed vehicles, fighting positions and tactical units near three cities, including Manbij and Mara, according to the Central Command.
The 11 strikes in Iraq hit locations near 10 cities, including Fallujah, Mosul and Ramadi, destroying fighting positions, safe-houses, rocket systems, vehicles, an explosive device factory and an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since the summer of 2014.
The Islamic State terrorist group, also known as Daesh in Arabic, is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries throughout the world.
