MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Federation Council's Foreign Affairs Committee is ready convene a meeting to consider a candidate for the post of the ambassador to Ukraine soon despite recess, the committee's First Deputy Chairman Vladimir Djabarov said on Friday.
Former Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov was dismissed by the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday. His duties are currently fulfilled by charge d'affaires Sergei Toropov.
"We are ready to convene a meeting as soon as a new ambassadorial candidate is proposed," Djabarov told RIA Novosti.
The candidates proposed by the Russian president to the parliament need to be approved by the upper and lower houses' relevant foreign affairs committees.
