MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed in a letter to the Russian committee the participation of around 270 Russian athletes in the upcoming Rio Games, Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Alexander Zhukov said Thursday.
"Like I said, 270 [athletes]. Everything the federations [recommended] has been approved in nearly all events and in full," Zhukov told R-Sport.
A number of international federations have reported throughout the day that the IOC’s three-person independent panel notified them of allowing Russian athletes – from sailing, to canoeing, shooting, judo, volleyball and a range of other sports – to compete at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The Rio 2016 website lists 276 Russian athletes competing in 177 events across 34 sports as of 16:20 GMT.
