A total of 271 Russian athletes have been allowed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to take part in the upcoming Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Alexander Zhukov said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier on Thursday, international sports federations and an IOC panel announced which Russian athletes have been found clean of doping and allowed to take part in the Games.

"The entire teams that were cleared for the Games are [in]: badminton, male and female boxing, BMX and mountain bike cycling, female water polo, male and female volleyball, beach volleyball (men and women), handball (women), golf, canoe slalom, judo (men and women), horse riding, table tennis, sailing, diving, trampolining, synchronized swimming, freestyle wrestling, women's Greco-Roman wrestling, gymnastics, clay pigeon shooting, shooting, archery, tennis, triathlon, taekwondo, fencing, artistic gymnastics… Overall, 271 Russian athletes have been admitted to the Olympics for now," Zhukov told reporters.

Russian athletes in seven sports types have been declared ineligible to compete in Rio, according to Zhukov. In athletics, just one athlete was cleared to compete. In cycling, four have been cleared and three have not been decided on. In canoe slalom, eight out of 14 have been cleared and one is yet to be decided on. In rowing, four out of 28 will be able to compete. In swimming, the number is 31 out of 35. In pentathlon, three out of four will attend and five out of six free-style wrestlers have been cleared with one yet to be decided on, the ROC president said.
