MOSCOW (Sputnik) — WikiLeaks said Saturday it was not planning to hack US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's tax returns, describing its founder Julian Assange's words regarding such plans as a joke.
"WikiLeaks isn't 'working on' hacking Trump's tax-returns. Claim is a joke from a comedy show. We are 'working on' encouraging whistleblowers," WikiLeaks tweeted.

The "joke" comes on the back of a scandal surrounding the publication by WikiLeaks of almost 20,000 emails of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in July. The DNC emails revealed that its top officials deliberately worked to obstruct Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders' campaign in order to boost Hillary Clinton's chances of becoming the party's nominee.
